Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny are set to join the cast of “Monster” Season 2 on Netflix, according to Variety. The acclaimed actors will join Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez in the upcoming season, titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story,” scheduled for release later in 2024.

Netflix has ordered two additional installments of the anthology series created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The first installment, titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” has been announced. Additionally, Netflix has secured “exclusive access” to Lyle and Erik Menéndez for their participation in a documentary feature produced by Campfire Studios.

The unveiling of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” coincides with a resurgence of interest in the Menéndez brothers’ case, as highlighted in the recent Peacock docuseries, “Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed.” This series delves into an allegation by Roy Rosselló, a former member of the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, who claims to have been sexually assaulted as a teenager by Jose Menéndez.

The season will focus on the Menéndez brothers, Erik (played by Koch) and Lyle Menéndez (played by Chavez), who were convicted of murdering their parents, José (Bardem) and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez (Sevigny), in 1996. Authorities argued that the brothers committed the murders to inherit their father’s fortune, while the brothers claimed they acted after enduring years of mental and physical abuse.

“Monster” was co-created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, who also serve as executive producers alongside Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, David McMillan, Louise Shore, and Carl Franklin. The first season centered on the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and proved to be a major success for Netflix. The streaming platform subsequently renewed it for two more seasons as an anthology series.

Chloë Sevigny’s role in “Monster” reunites her with Ryan Murphy, with whom she has collaborated on multiple projects, including various seasons of “American Horror Story” and the upcoming second season of “Feud” at FX. Javier Bardem, an Oscar-winning actor, will be making his debut as a regular in an English-language television role with his portrayal of José Menéndez.

Sevigny is represented by WME and Circle of Confusion, while Bardem is represented by WME and Goodman Genow.
